Tried to post vid of new fish but it timed out twice and then dumped my whole post. Maybe another time.

I’m confused. Venus, don’t you do 3 WC/week, rinsing one sponge each WC? You’re not overstocked, right? If I rinsed 1 sponge/week it’d be 3 weeks in between rinses for each sponge because I have 3 pumps (essentially).

Those are abscesses on the tail… it’s hard to tell in the pictures, but seeing them in person, it’s clear. They are bloody red with white heads and they developed in the last 2 days. There is blood streaking into the tail around them. They’re small and I don’t think too dangerous, but the fish has a total of 5 abscesses now. Actually, the new one looks more like an ulcer or just a bloody opening in the skin.

The plants are my old ones. I put them in the tank yesterday so Fannie can have a place to hide while sick.

I’m going to do a couple of h2o2 baths and see if they help.

In one you can see the new lesion. In the other, one of the abscesses on her tail.

I put aloe in the tank today. I’ll get some pics.

I don’t see Mean Green on the TOG remedy page. I also don’t have chlorophyll on hand, but I do have spirulina powder. Want to email a recipe?

Fish house is topless as usual
    Parameters:
    ntrate 5
    pH 8.2

I want to do a WC because there is a lot of waste in the tank.

Have been feeding garlic peas for 5-6 days, since I first noticed the abscess. Just made garlic gel food and will be feeding it, too.

2 days after my last 20% WC and nitrate is barely reaching 5 ppm this morning. What the heck?!? This is a problem I certainly have never had before. I want to do a WC, but fear a spike if I do. I’m beginning to freak out. I’m feeding more… guess I’ll feed more? It’s only garlic peas right now. Maybe I’ll mix up some gel food and use garlic water to make it with – my premade Repashy gel food with garlic water! Great idea!

Good news: the original abscess on Fannie’s right side looks much better. No more redness, scales look fine.

Concerns: 3 tiny abscesses on her caudal lobes and it looks like there is now a new lesion on her right side, at the base of her pectoral fin. Yikes. What could cause this? I”m thinking her immune system must be compromised. Is there an abscess disease? With multiple abscesses forming?

Treatment? Shall I do another 1 TBL salt 1TBL garlic bath to treat the new abscess forming on her left side or is that too much salt too soon? I’ve done 3 days of garlic treatment in the tank. Can I continue it?

Finally, back to my trusty journal.

    Copied from yesterday’s post, 2/17/17:
New development: Fannie now has 3-4 tiny abscesses on her tail lobes. At first I thought they were Ich, but can see now that they’re tiny red abscesses with white heads. I’ve never heard of this before.

    So far I’ve done:
-Mint tonic in tank 4 days ago
-Garlic treatment in tank x 3 days
-Garlic and I TBL salt bath 2 days ago
-Garlic and 1 tsp salt bath yesterday (added the salt because I thought she had ich)
-Mint and 1 tps salt bath today
-feeding only garlic peas x 5 days
-h2o2 in tank am and pm x 3 days

I’ve seen her porpoise once last night and once tonight and this worries me. I’ve never seen her do that before and have only seen it in my fish that went on to die.

I’m thinking of dabbing h2o2 directly on the abscesses followed by a dab of Neosporin. What do you think? Other recommendations?
