Goldfish spasms due to nitrite poisoning
Goldfish spasms related to nitrite poisoning, the second toxin to form in the nitrogen cycle. Ammonia is the first toxin to form in the cycle, created from waste. Ammonia is a food source for beneficial bacteria. Friendly bugs feed on ammonia, converting it into nitrites. Nitrites is also a food source for good bacteria, only a different type. When nitrites are present, they feed on it, creating nitrates. Nitrates is the last toxin to form in the cycle. The toxin is only deadly in large amounts, unlike ammonia and nitrite, deadly at low levels
