I'm liking the looks of this filter but I'd like to get an opinion here. I do like the one w/the basket from Walmart but the sponge on this pump is intriguing and a pretty good price. Thank you!

It's progress, along with photos of it's arrival, the acclimation process and placement into its new home will be posted here The fish is healthy before shipping, and hopefully it will arrive in the same shape It's going to be spending its first few weeks in a tub with three relatively new comets. The new fish has just recently lost its tank mate, and may be feeling down because of it. Being stuck in a box for close to a day is more than a little upsetting as well. It should be interesting to see its attitude I'm reasonably certain the new fish is a comet, but not sure of the sex
I visited my dad's friend's 2 outdoor ponds today and here are the parameters: 2700gallon pond, 5.2ft 33 large koi, pond 2 years old: KH 65 GH 20 - 40 Ammonia 0.1 Nitrite 0.1 - 0.3 Nitrate 50+ (under 100) One fish in the large pond has bulging red eyes, another has a big bulge on the side of its body. 770gallon pond, 3.5ft 20 large koi, pond 6 years old: KH 30 GH 20-40 Ammonia 0.1 Nitrite 0.1-0.3 Nitrate 50 He appears to have a problem with high nitrates and low KH and low GH. He had to keep doing water changes to keep nitrates low or they can exceed 100ppm. The ponds are quite full with koi and they swim slowly. Each pond has a small waterfall that brings water down from above and a filtration fixture at the bottom on the pond that sucks debris out to an external canister. The larger pond has a fixture at the bottom of the deep end that can push water upwards with surface action like a pond pump. There are constant low levels of salt (0.12) in the ponds to prevent infection. I've forwarded this site to Dad's friend and linked this blog post to him. Hoping he can followup with you here on how to treat.

These worms are visual, but you must look closely to see them Excluding parasitic worms are easily eliminated by feeding our gel food with natural antibiotic or shelled peas marinated in garlic water. Feed nothing else but for 10 days straight to destroy them. Wait for twenty days and repeat. Parasitic worms depend on a slow moving and unhealthy tract to thrive. Feed less food more often, and feed a variety of food that includes vegetables, such as blanched spinach and shelled peas. Feed in a spreading motion so that your fish has to work for its supper. Goldfish Vase My brother and his girlfriend have left me their vase (!!!) of three small goldfish for 5 days. The vase has some plants inside and some pebbles at the floor but no pump or filter. They usually do a 50% water change every few days and feed once to twice daily. The fish have been I would like to get them a proper tank and water pump, but I am concerned that suddenly changing the environment will shock the fish. I don't think that they will take home a tank greater than 10 gallons. What do you think of this pump? I don't see a water intake area for a sponge though... Fish now in five gallon aquarium

We've learned that beneficial bacteria are responsible for the nitrogen cycle. Without these friendly bugs, goldfish would be poisoned by their own waste. Keeping fish safe in captivity would be a challenge if not impossible without this miracle of nature Without the nitrogen cycle, life would not exist as we know it Nitrates are the third and final conversion in the cycle; tolerated by goldfish at low levels. This toxin can only be removed by means of a partial water change. If the environment in your goldfish house cannot support beneficial bacteria, then it will support harmful bacteria. If bad bugs flourish in your tank or pond, your goldfish won't.
